A comer no.2: Tiella, The Compton Arms
Hi! It’s spring now :) and….. I think time for me to share more spots.
Yelloooooo!
You can find Tiella in the back garden of Orwell’s pub. In George Orwell’s 1946 essay, ‘The Moon Under Water’, he goes to great lengths to describe the perfect pub. According to Orwell, the ideal watering hole is a place where it is ‘always quiet enough to talk’, the staff ‘know most of their customers by name’ and ‘you can get a good, solid lunch’. Although The Moon Under Water he writes about is entirely fictional, good old George was inspired by a real pub in the London borough of Islington that he was a regular patron of.
In their back garden they have a small kitchen which has been the home to many chefs. The likes of: Four Legs (now at The Plimsoll), and Belly Ldn. Now it’s Dara Klein cooking up a storm in their kitchen :)
Decor: When describing the pub itself I’d say cozy pub in Yorkshire. The Compton Arm’s uses the word “snug” to describe it. I dined in their charming garden - quiet, a couple of wooden tables and benches, hanging pots. (sadly no photos taken)
Food: A warm hug from a friends estranged nonna. My friend who doesn’t eat greens indulged on the asparagus! aka. A WIN!
Drink: I had some beer and wine with friends - wasn’t the center of my attention. I have a good friend, whose opinion I hold highly - she’s basically irish. Rates the guinness so… like it’s good. Unfortunetky, no “splitting G’s” possible in this pub.
Price: £65pp this included loads and loads of drink and food. The patron who didn’t drink paid around £20-25
Google says: £10-20
Hope you’ll go. I really liked it there :) Next time i’ll share recs which are more affordable and lists for you to save into your notes app or…. maybe a shared google map!
